چکیده

I n the article by Chao et al, “Plasma Levels of Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9 Are Elevated in Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease and Associated With Metabolic Disorders and Dysfunction in Circulating Progenitor Cells,” which published online on May 20, 2016 and was included in the May 2016 issue of the journal (J Am Heart Assoc. 2016;5: e003497 doi: 10.1161/JAHA.116.003497), an error occurred. On page 2 of the article, the authors incorrectly stated: “Plasma concentrations of biomarkers were measured using commercial kits (American Diagnostica Inc).” The article has been updated to state: Plasma concentrations of biomarkers were measured using commercial kits (R&D Systems Inc., Minneapolis, MN, USA; and Mercodia AB, Uppsala, Sweden).” The authors regret the error. The online version of the article has been updated and is available at http://jaha.ahajournals.org/content/5/ 5/e003497.full.

Plasma Levels of Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9 Are Elevated in Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease and Associated With Metabolic Disorders and Dysfunction in Circulating Progenitor Cells

BACKGROUND Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is involved in cholesterol homeostasis, inflammation, and oxidative stress. This study investigated the association of plasma PCSK9 levels with the presence and severity of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and with parameters of endothelial homeostasis. METHODS AND RESULTS A post hoc analysis of 2 randomized trials (115 patients,...

Effect of cilostazol on plasma levels of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9

The protein complex proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) serves as an important target for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and lipid homeostasis. This study investigated the effect of cilostazol on plasma PCSK9 concentrations. We performed a post hoc analysis of two prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trials including 115 patients of whom 61 receive...

Treatment-Induced Viral Cure of Hepatitis C Virus-Infected Patients Involves a Dynamic Interplay among three Important Molecular Players in Lipid Homeostasis: Circulating microRNA (miR)-24, miR-223, and Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9

In patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, viral hijacking of the host-cell biosynthetic pathways is associated with altered lipid metabolism, which contributes to disease progression and may influence antiviral response. We investigated the molecular interplay among four key regulators of lipid homeostasis [microRNA (miR)-122, miR-24, miR-223, and proprotein convertase subtili...

Plasma proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 levels and the risk of first cardiovascular events.

AIMS Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a secreted protein that enhances degradation of the LDL receptor. While agents that inhibit PCSK9 markedly reduce atherogenic lipoproteins and show great promise for event reduction, it is unknown whether plasma PCSK9 levels predict incident cardiovascular events. METHODS AND RESULTS In a nested case-control evaluation conducted in...

Circulating proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9) regulates VLDLR protein and triglyceride accumulation in visceral adipose tissue.

OBJECTIVE Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9) promotes the degradation of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), and its gene is the third locus implicated in familial hypercholesterolemia. Herein, we investigated the role of PCSK9 in adipose tissue metabolism. METHODS AND RESULTS At 6 months of age, Pcsk9(-/-) mice accumulated ≈80% more visceral adipose tissue than wild-ty...
